Τhe U.S. Ambassador to the Hellenic Republic, Mr. George J. Tsunis visited the Harokopio University of Athens, marking the beginning of a new and noteworthy chapter in the promotion and enhancement of internationalization.
On January 19, 2024, the Rector of Harokopio University of Athens, Professor Maria Nikolaidi, had the honor of welcoming Ambassador Tsunis and jointly laying the foundations for beneficial and substantial collaboration between Greek and American higher education institutions.
This visit by the U.S. Ambassador took place for the first time within the premises of a Higher Education Institution and represents a pioneering development in strengthening Greek-American university ties.
Also present at the meeting were the Vice-Rectors of Harokopio University of Athens, Professors Konstantinos Abeliotis, Georgios Dedousis, and Georgios Malindretos, the President of Study in Greece, Professor Christos Michalakelis, and the Director of Academic Affairs at SiG, Mr. Theodoris Papaioannou. The representatives of the U.S. Embassy, Mrs Kristin Roberts, Mrs Shanna Surendra, and Mrs Marina Cheilitsi, were warmly welcomed.
In a very warm atmosphere, with the exchange of formal gifts, a beautiful discussion took place around the crucial topic of internationalizing education. This constructive dialogue was enriched with proposals and perspectives on deepening and strengthening ongoing collaborations, but more importantly, establishing new and innovative partnerships within the framework of the strategic internationalization planning of Harokopio University of Athens.
The Rector of Harokopio University of Athens, Professor Maria Nikolaidi, and U.S. Ambassador to the Hellenic Republic George J. Tsunis expressed their belief that this visit marks only the beginning of a promising journey for the future of education and research in the two countries.
